High School Portfolio

The Front of My Ginormous Final Portfolio
Here you see something I would have called my magnum opus upon graduating high school. This 4" thick  binder contains the work I did in high school, including grades 9 thru 12. The portfolio has all sorts of things from my high school experience. Themes included "Process Pieces," "Argumentative/Persuasive Pieces," "College/Career Info," "Creative Pieces," etc. This portfolio was a very large chunk of my AP English grade my senior year; it also took several months of work daily. There's not really any way to fully describe every piece of it, but I've kept it as a momento to the many things I've done, and also as a reminder of what one can achieve thru dedication and focus. As I've struggled through college, it has been a reminder of the progress that I have made, and how far I have come.
Calvin & Hobbes

A big part of the portfolio was coming up with a filler theme. If you look closely, I chose the Calvin and Hobbes Comic Strip. I felt that Calvin was a reflection of a younger me. A little crazy, quite creative, and overall a good kid, Calvin reminded me of myself. I even had a cat that I would have similar adventures with. It reminded me of a time when my life was more simple, and even now, as I look back, I realize that High School was a simpler time (though I didn't think so back then). Even so, just like Calvin, I was a kid that had great ambitions, dreams, and desires to do great things. The items contained therein reflect that. Though it was originally seen as a royal pain in the butt, I can know look back and appreciate the chance I had to create and assemble each piece of work. The Lord blessed my life immensely through those challenging times.

I moved my sophomore year of high school from Utah to Massachusetts. I went to two different high schools in Mass., one in Utah, and each time I had to leave, it was quite a difficult challenge. For 6 months my family didn't even live in Mass with me (I moved out earlier, with my dad). Not having any friends, experiencing culture shock, and not even having my seven siblings or mom for support made those first months extra difficult. Eventually the family came out, but I changed high schools yet again. I struggled academically because I changed schools mid semester. Somehow however, this portfolio shows my resilience and success. And I'm grateful to have made it this far.
